Carrizozo, NM

Two days ago I was in Carrizozo, NM which is an adorable town. I stopped in Roy's and had a delicious old-fashioned chocolate malt. Mmmmmmm good.

This newspaper page was hanging in the bathroom... can anyone explain to me what a 'sad' iron is? And I love how they are like, "now with asbestos, yay!" ROFL.

that is a very good question to which I have no answer but I would imagine if I had to use it I'd feel very sad because these irons were heavy and they were heated with Asbestos???? Coal?
In those days it would take all day to wash and all day to iron.
The whole laundry issue sounds pretty sad lol

How do men sort their laundry?

"Filthy" and "Filthy but Wearable".:)

"Sad" in the 19th/early 20th century also meant heavy. So, just a heavy iron, which I think we knew just by looking at it.
